Landscapes

We offer full architectural and construction services based on the principles of permaculture and deep ecology.

Our Services

Wild Sensoria take on ecologically regenerative, architectural design, building and landscaping projects internationally, preferring to be involved holistically in all facets of the implementation, from site analysis and planning, to construction, project management, interiors and soft furnishings.

Architecture

Architectural Design
and Building

LEARN MORE

We try to combine local, traditional and indigenous knowledge with appropriate technology, the client’s requirements and aesthetic, and our own style. We believe it is important to implement a design concept that is complementary to the site conditions and the local culture. We will therefore do a full location analysis in order to ascertain this. Our team is able to train and work with the local workers in your area. We implement permaculture principles of placing equal value on earth care, people care and fair share.

Interiors and
Furniture

LEARN MORE

We offer a turn key service which includes interior design, furniture and soft furnishings custom design and /or sourcing. We ensure all items are artisan made and of natural and sustainable materials.

Natural
Building Materials

LEARN MORE

We use readily available, locally sourced materials and resources, and will visit the area in order to establish the most appropriate materials for your location. Mostly we like to use mud directly from the ground from where the structures are built. We use mud and lime plasters and paints, thatch or green “living” roofs, bamboo and reclaimed wood from nearby boats, houses or reclamation yards if it is available. We use magnesium oxide cements and cement boards where available. We use concrete mindfully and minimally. We use “free-mite” (concentrated chilli pepper) or non toxic alternatives to treat wood and bamboo to prevent termites in tropical locations. We provide ecologically made, artisan furniture.

Bio composting
toilets

LEARN MORE

We build and install bio composting toilets for many reasons. This method does not require water which is a great benefit in drought ridden areas. Also water is not polluted as with conventional toilets, thereby preventing energy wastage in cleaning water, and preventing contamination of underground water supplies. In addition to this the compost that is created from the decomposition process is a vital component of soils. In a time when globally we face serious problems as a result of depleted soils this is of vital importance. Again, urine is of great nutritional value to the soil, and so we ensure this is harnessed by way of a drip irrigation system embedded into the soil and distributed into garden beds. These two processes ensure that there is zero waste, just as nature intended, as there is no such thing as waste in nature!

Passive cooling /
water heating

LEARN MORE

We aim to use low tech or “no tech” principles wherever possible, instead using natural ecological systems to do the work. This usually greatly facilitates cost saving and also requires less maintenance. We use passive cooling wherever possible. Mud brick is a naturally cooling building material and we incorporate this with cross ventilation and convection cooling techniques, as well as underfloor cooling techniques, maximised shading and by making the best use of sun and wind orientation. In addition to this the use of ponds and water ways in close proximity to the structures can help with cooling. We implement solar water heating methods as well as the heating of water by running pipes through the heat generated by composting.

Carbon zero / minimal
energy consumption

LEARN MORE

We are able to design and build with a carbon zero footprint. We minimize energy consumption through the use of solar lights and LED lights and eliminate the need for conventional air conditioning and water heating, through the implementation of passive cooling and heating, and appropriate building materials. We incorporate the most ecologically available, energy saving appliances, fixtures and fittings where necessary, however we find alternative, low tech or no tech (natural systems) methods wherever possible in order to eliminate the need for environmentally (and financially) costly conventional appliances. We reduce, reuse and recycle wherever possible.

Landscapes

Regenerative Landscaping

LEARN MORE

We implement the practice of regenerative landscaping through increased sensitivity to the living systems around us. We focus on increasing soil fertility through the use of biocomposting toilets, bio fertilizers, compost building, mulching and worm farming techniques. We also focus on preventing soil erosion, increasing the soil capacity for water retention, increasing biodiversity, tree planting, beekeeping, other location appropriate methods, as well as the other methods explained in the sections below.

Organic Edible
Gardens

LEARN MORE

We explain how to prepare soils and maximise soil fertility, how to make bio fertilisers, EM fertilisers, organic pesticides and how to build and maintain garden beds, and fruit forests without the need for chemical pesticides. We can prepare even the most urban or small space for growing food.

Rain water harvesting,
diversion and storage

LEARN MORE

A site investigation will ascertain the best way to harness rainwater, working with the natural contours of the land. Often we can collect roof water and store it in ponds or tanks, as well as diverting rainwater through the property in order to most benefit the plant life. The use of collection ponds and swales can also help this, and can be a beautiful design feature of your landscape. We always try to implement green techniques in a way that aesthetically enhances the project and maximises financial as well as natural resources. Walkways and driveways are constructed to ensure a minimal footprint on the earth and maximum water permeation back into the ground water table.

Natural
swimming ponds

LEARN MORE

Natural pools increase bio diversity of both plant and animal life and provide a much needed water supply to many wildlife. This means that swimming in your pool will be a delightful experience surrounded by birds, dragon flies and butterflies. Pools of water also help to keep the nearby buildings cooler, and can sometimes help to raise the ground water levels. We keep evaporation rates to a minimal through plant cover, and through the use of natural trellis’ and shading. Natural swimming ponds are not only an ecological feature, but add great beauty to your landscape and are a profoundly more ecological alternative to conventional pools which do nothing to benefit the natural ecosystem and ecology, instead depleting natural resources.

Grey water
recycling

LEARN MORE

We devise the most suitable plant, sand and gravel based water recycling plan for the garden needs, in order to reduce the need for additional watering, and ensure as little maintenance as possible.

Mawun

Mud village

Mawun mud village is an eco retreat and learning centre for ecological and holistic living. It is in south Lombok, Indonesia, and is designed, built and project managed by Wild Sensoria. It is helping to lead the transition to an awakened consciousness in building and development, and carbon zero living. Upon completion the resort will be an example of ecologically regenerative and holistic design, building and tourism; meeting high end modern standards while also helping to economically sustain the local community.
